2020 Registration Spelling Bee FAQs
How can my school participate in the PAGE 2020 Regional Spelling Bee?
1. Be a school or registered homeschool in Edgecombe, Franklin, Hoke, Nash, Sampson, Vance, Wake, or Wayne County, NC (See our homeschool page here.) 2. Register your school for the PAGE Spelling Bee at www.spellingbee.com 3. Hold a school-wide spelling bee* prior to January 31. 4. Notify Scripps (via your registration at spellingbee.com) and PAGE of your winner and confirm his or her participation in the PAGE bee. (Then cheer on your school's champion on March 14th!) |
Who is eligible for the spelling bee?
Because the winner of your school bee will compete in the PAGE Bee, and because the winner of the PAGE Bee will compete at Scripps National Bee, you should be aware of the Scripps eligibility requirements. Click here to review.
When is the spelling bee?
This year's PAGE spelling bee is Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the McKimmon Center, 1101 Gorman St., Raleigh. (The Scripps Bee is May 24-29, 2020 in National Harbor, Maryland.)
Who participates in the spelling bee?
Each registered school or home school in our 8-county area that holds a spelling bee will end with one school-wide winner. That winner can participate in the PAGE bee.
What's the prize for the winner of the PAGE bee?
PAGE sends the winner and parents/ guardians to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the Washington, DC area, expenses paid. There, the speller will participate in the televised national bee everyone loves to watch!
Scripps provides the winner/s of the national bee with $50,000 in scholarship funds and more. Visit the Scripps site for more details.
Where can I find information to study for the bee?
Visit the national spelling bee online home. The Parents & Students tab has resources for preparation. Merriam-Webster's dictionary is the official dictionary of the bee and will be the final authority on correct spellings.
Will all words at the bee be in the study materials?
No. Words at the bee are from Scripps, and they are not guaranteed to be available in study materials. Focus on learning word lists but also looking at prefixes, suffixes, and root words.

Visit here and off you go! Remember that there is a final deadline to sign up (December 20, 2019) and an earlier deadline for the early-bird reduced fee (October 15, 2019).
