Dear spellers, parents, and sponsors,
We are so sorry to announce that the March 14 PAGE 2020 Bee is not going to be held. The McKimmon Center has been banned from holding events in excess of 100 people as of last night, March 11. Because we have 89 registered spellers (who each are obligated to have at least one parent with them) and no way to tier them (they're all school-wide champions), we have no way to hold our event at this time.
We hope you will be understanding, as health, safety, and cooperation with community health regulations are more important than any event, which unfortunately includes the prestigious spelling bee. We understand the time, work, and effort put into this. We are working toward finding alternate solutions to see if the event might still go on at a later, undetermined date.
We will report back later as to whether this is a cancellation or a postponement. We are awaiting instruction from Scripps as to their deadlines and requirements and whether we will be able to meet them in North Carolina.
Please check back here for further information as details are made available to us. We will update here and on our facebook page first. We will provide transparent and full details to all with any information we are given. Then you for your time and understanding.
Sincerely,
PAGE of Wake County
